Mustang Is Launched in India

America has produced some excellent racing cars, which are not too pricey. One such car is the Ford Mustang. It is a 8 cylinder car. The car was launched on the road in 1962 and immediately caught the imagination of enthusiasts. The car model in a sense is dated, but there have been periodical upgrades. Despite this the car is extremely popular. It is a wonder why the car was not introduced in India earlier by Ford, but that lacuna is fulfilled with its introduction in the Indian market. The car will be initially available in Mumbai.

The Mustang is named after a racing breed of a horse and lives up to its name. The car comes only in two door mode. It may have a retractable roof as well. The car is launched at a price of Rs 75 lakhs in Bombay, which is not too steep considering that the Porche and Ferrari can touch Rs 2 crores.

I have owned a Mustang in the UAE and it’s a swell car.It races to 200 km an hour in no time and I could do the Abu Dhabi -Dubai run under 2 hours. One advantage was the road. Maybe similar roads will not be available in India, where the concept of the autobahn has not caught on.

The Ford Mustang is a 6 or 8 cylinder car with an engine that develops nearly 400 BHP.However it’s not frugal as far as gas consumption is concerned and does,5/6 km on a liter of gas. There is no diesel version though about 5 variants of the petrol model are available. In India only one model is launched.

The coupe comes in two versions with a hard top and a soft top. The soft top version has a retractable canvas roof. It’s a real pleasure to retract the roof and belt forward at 150 km an hour. The car has automatic climate control as well as a six speed automatic gear box. I am not aware of a manual gear box.

The Mustang lives up to its name and image as a beefy sports car. The cars only drawback are the 2 rear seats which can only be accessed by folding the front seat. The seats are low and a little difficult for older citizens. All said and done the Mustang is an asset on Indian roads for Indian motor enthusiasts.
